A Skill in Hermes 3000 is a targeted instruction sent to the AI model when generating text or images. Instead of simply saying "Write a fight scene," a Skill gives the model concrete craft-level guidance:
- Which senses should be engaged?
- What pacing should the text have?
- Which narrative techniques should be employed?
- What should be avoided?
A good Skill is like a director's note: it doesn't tell the model what to write, but how.

"The two fighters faced each other. The first one attacked, but the second dodged. After a long battle, the hero finally won."
Fight Scene With the "Action Scene" Skill (⚔️)
The Skill includes instructions like: Focus on physical sensations -- pain, exhaustion, adrenaline. Vary the pacing between rapid exchanges and moments of stillness. Use short, choppy sentences for intensity.
The result is text that pulls the reader into the scene, rather than merely describing it.

The model receives multiple "director's notes" at once and weaves them into a coherent result. This is something no standard prompt can achieve.
The Skill Marketplace: Sharing Know-How
This is where it gets really exciting. Every author develops an intuition over time for which instructions work especially well with which model. Maybe you've discovered that a certain phrasing makes the model write fight scenes with real physical impact. Or that a particular instruction produces love scenes that don't become cheesy.

How Does It Work?
- You create a new Skill with a name, description, icon, and the actual prompt instructions
- You decide whether the Skill should be public (visible to all) or private (only for you)
- Other users can find your public Skill in the marketplace and activate it
- Activated Skills then appear directly in their generation modals -- alongside the system Skills
Why This Matters
AI-assisted text production has a quality problem: most texts sound alike because most prompts are alike. Skills solve this on two levels:
Individually: You get better, more varied text because you give the model more precise instructions.
Collectively: The community builds a growing pool of proven writing techniques. When someone figures out how to make the model write gripping courtroom scenes, everyone benefits.
